Performance Report: Word Travels – Sarah Kay & Phil Kaye

Well, shucks. The world famous Sarah Kay & Phil Kaye appeared mysteriously in Sydney, and I went along as a fan boy.

But once packed into the sardine can of a room, host Miles Merrill called me up to perform, sharing the stage with Morganics, Candy Royalle, Catherina Behan and Randall Stephens. I shat out 49% of The Kalevala – editing and reshuffling on the fly, at double speed.

Sarah Kay & Phil Kaye then got up and ripped the stage in half though, doing a similar thing to my heart, which I had to wash back down for fear of throwing it back up. They were really good. It was personal, it was touching and it was sweet.

I went home and wrote a haiku about faeces. It will never make you cry.
